Free, private testing available
Niagara Health is marking World Hepatitis Day by bringing free hepatitis C testing and education to the community.
A public health event will be held July 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Montebello Park in St. Catharines, offering private testing, information about the Hepatitis C Care Clinic and resources for liver health, addiction and mental health.
Health officials say many Canadians living with hepatitis C don't know they're infected.
They hope the event will encourage more people to get tested, noting the virus is preventable, treatable and, in most cases, curable.
