Niagara Health gives 5-year-plan progress update, committed to 3-hospital system

Niagara Health has released an update on its five-year strategic plan, highlighting progress made since its launch in 2023, while addressing the challenges facing hospital care in the region.

Despite pressures from staff shortages, rising demand and long Emergency Department waits, Niagara Health says it has reduced nursing vacancies, recruited new physicians and improved emergency care with new roles and programs.

Investments in advanced diagnostic equipment and expanded research partnerships have also strengthened patient care.

Looking ahead, Niagara Health says the focus will be on preparing for the opening of the new South Niagara Hospital in 2028, redeveloping the Welland site, and building a fully integrated three-site hospital system for the region.
