With the Victoria Day long weekend starting today, the Niagara Falls Fire Department is reminding residents and visitors that fireworks are regulated under a municipal by-law.
Fire Chief Jo Zambito says fireworks can be a fun part of holiday celebrations when used safely, but warned they can also be dangerous if discharged improperly.
The department says fireworks cannot be set off over buildings, roads, vehicles or hydro lines, and must not cross onto neighbouring properties.
Fireworks are permitted from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the day before the holiday, the holiday itself, and the three days following.
