Niagara Falls motel altercation results in manslaughter charges

Niagara Regional Police are investigating a fatal incident that began as an altercation at a Niagara Falls motel.

On June 27, officers responded to a report of a dispute in the parking lot near Montrose Road and Chippawa Creek Road, where one man sustained a traumatic head injury. 

He was transported to an out-of-region hospital, where he remained until October 22 when he passed away.

Initially charged with Aggravated Assault, 55-year-old Gerald Philion appeared in court on November 5, and his charges were upgraded to manslaughter.
