Niagara Falls is launching a new registry to keep a closer eye on vacant buildings across the city.
The program is designed to prevent empty properties from becoming neglected or unsafe, while giving the City a proactive way to work with owners on safety, security and property standards.
Owners have 60 days to register a vacant building unless an exemption applies.
Registration costs $1,350 initially, including a $350 administration fee and $1,000 annual fee with the $1,000 fee applying each year the building remains vacant.
Owners must also make sure vacant buildings are properly maintained and secured against public access.
Failure to register or comply could result in a $500 administrative penalty for each enforcement visit, where applicable.
