The music of Coldplay is coming to one of Niagara's most breathtaking outdoor venues, and this isn't your typical tribute concert.
The Candlelight Concerts: A Tribute to Coldplay experience arrives tonight at the Oaks Garden Theatre in Niagara Falls, pairing the band's biggest hits with the power of the Niagara Symphony Orchestra in an intimate, candlelit setting overlooking the Falls. Lead singer and guitarist Zach Oliver says the atmosphere is just as important as the music.
Choosing just a dozen songs from Coldplay's extensive catalogue wasn't easy. A lifelong fan of the band, Oliver says there was plenty of trial and error before settling on a setlist that balances fan favourites with emotional highs and lows.
The show features Oliver, Kevin Fox and Ada Miller performing alongside the Niagara Symphony Orchestra, creating lush orchestral arrangements while still keeping the songs audiences know and love. Oliver says the goal is to put their own spin on the music while paying tribute to one of the world's most recognizable bands.
With a 9:00pm start time, the performance is designed to take full advantage of the candlelight ambiance as dusk settles over Niagara Falls. Add in the backdrop of the illuminated Horseshoe Falls and a fireworks finale, and Oliver says the venue becomes part of the performance itself.
