A new community recreation hub is one step closer to becoming a reality in Niagara Falls.
City Council has approved the $59-million Chippawa Willoughby Community Centre project, which includes a new NHL-sized ice pad, public library, gymnasium, indoor turf facility and flexible community spaces.
The existing arena will be preserved and transformed into an indoor turf complex, following more than two years of planning and public consultation.
Construction planning will now move ahead, with the project funded through a mix of provincial funding, City reserves, land sales and long-term financing.
