A new historical exhibition is now on display at Niagara District Airport, highlighting the airport’s role in the Second World War.
The exhibit, titled The Airport and the Second World War, was developed in partnership between Niagara District Airport, the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre, and the City of St. Catharines.
The display explores the St. Catharines Flying Club and the airport’s designation in 1940 as No. 9 Elementary Flying Training School under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, a key Royal Canadian Air Force training site.
Officials say the exhibition is part of broader efforts to preserve and share the airport’s wartime legacy as part of St. Catharines’ 150th anniversary celebrations.
