In what’s being called a stinging rebuke, Niagara region councillors have passed a motion, reprimanding chair Bob Gale for overstepping authority by unilaterally lobbying the province to amalgamate Niagara.
Gale wrote the province, with the plan to make Niagara into 4 cities, or 1 city, as a way of dealing with rising taxes, and too many politicians.
At special meeting, council voted to insist Gale refrain from any further action, or, use staff time regarding amalgamation.
Council concludes, it will lead it’s own review, based on finances and public consultation.
