Niagara College students win award for schoolyard redesign

Students from Niagara College are being recognized for a project that blends education with community impact.

Second-year Landscape Technician students won the Come Alive Outside Design Challenge with a plan to transform the schoolyard at James Morden Public School into a natural outdoor learning space.

The initiative connects students with industry professionals to redesign schoolyards as biodiverse environments that encourage children to spend more time outdoors.

Their winning concept features multiple nature-based zones focused on play, learning, and accessibility, earning top marks from both judges and the school community. Construction on the project in Niagara Falls is expected to begin in 2027.
