Niagara College photography student William Mitchell knows that great photos often come down to patience.
During an early morning walk in the woods, the St. Catharines native captured a rare silver fox, an image now featured in Canadian Geographic.
His photo was one of just 98 selected from roughly 10,000 submissions.
Silver foxes, a rare colour variation of red foxes, make up only about 10 per cent of the species and are notoriously difficult to spot.
Mitchell credits his professors for pushing him to pursue his craft, especially Grace Smith, who encouraged him to submit the photo and helped him produce a poster of the image.
