'Next Generation 9-1-1' launching this week in Niagara

Niagara Regional Police Service, along with Niagara Parks Police and St. Catharines Fire Services, has officially launched Next Generation 9-1-1 across the region, as of March 4.

The upgraded system modernizes emergency communications, improving location accuracy, reliability, and cybersecurity.

It also adds stronger backup capabilities and will support future features like real-time text and live video to 9-1-1 operators.

Police say the change means faster, more resilient service when seconds count. The province has provided more than $7.7 million to support the transition.
