The Ontario Ministry of Education has approved $32.6 million in capital funding for the Niagara Catholic District School Board.
Most of the funding, almost $26-million, will go toward a new Catholic elementary school and a three-room childcare centre in Thorold, although a site has not yet been selected.
Another $4.5 million will be used to expand Saint Michael Catholic High School in Niagara Falls to help address enrolment pressures in the rapidly growing community.
The board says this means it now has four major capital projects either underway or approved for funding, including a new school in Beamsville set to open in 2027 and another elementary school in south Niagara Falls currently in the design stage.
