Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates has been named the Ontario NDP’s shadow minister for Tourism, Gaming and Sport.
Gates says he’ll focus on protecting good-paying jobs, making life more affordable and ensuring local communities benefit from tourism investment.
Gates points to Niagara’s $3 billion tourism industry, which supports about 40,000 jobs, and says he’ll continue fighting for casino and Niagara Parks workers.
He’s also highlighted his work on investments in the Shaw Festival, keeping Fort Erie Racetrack open and improving GO train service, along with opposition to plans for a second Ferris wheel at Queen Victoria Park.
Gates previously served as the NDP’s long-term care critic, advocating for seniors, families and frontline workers.
He says he’ll bring that same approach to his new role, with a focus on protecting gaming jobs, promoting responsible gaming and making community sports more affordable and accessible.
