Migrant Workers Alliance for Change is urging Niagara’s incoming municipal councils to make migrant worker safety a priority, regardless of whether they signed the group’s election pledge.

The alliance says migrant farm workers often face dangerous conditions while walking or cycling on rural roads, with limited transportation options and long work hours.

The group is calling for action on road safety, employer-provided housing and transportation, along with a coroner’s inquest.

Seven workers have been killed or seriously injured on Niagara roads since 2019.
