Mental Health Week: More OHL players opening up encourages fans to do the same

In a league that is as competitive as the Ontario Hockey League, the focus of winning is often front and centre.

A lot of us see the skill and speed of players making great plays. But what we don't often see is what goes through their minds when the game is on the line.

Speaking with Tracy Robert, the OHL's Manager of Culture and Community, she says athletes opening up about their mental health struggles could encourage fans to do the same.

She explains why more athletes, as well as coaches and staff are opening up about their mental health and how it is OK to reach out for help.

Tracy says even the best players have difficult adjusting to a new environment and that is why it is great to see more of them open up about their mental health.

We hear how former OHL player Ben Fanelli has used his experience in helping others cope with mental health issues. And, by having players open up about their mental health, how that has inspired others to do the same.
