Niagara Health announced cuts to urgent care in Fort Erie and Port Colborne this week
The mayors of Fort Erie and Port Colborne aren't happy with Niagara Health's decision to reduce urgent care hours this summer.
This comes after the announcement yesterday to close urgent care sites in each town for select days this summer due to physician shortages.
In the statement, Fort Erie's Mayor Redekop says this decision is "completely unacceptable and deeply disappointing."
Over the last few months, both Mayor Redekop and Port Colborne Mayor Bill Steele has offered to work with Niagara Health to support physician recruitment efforts to keep the UCCs operational.
The Town of Fort Erie adds that this could be problematic as they face a large influx of tourism in the summer, with 75 events planned in a 170 day span.
A joint media conference, which is open to the public, will be held on Wednesday at 1:00pm at the Fort Erie Leisureplex.
