Winds up to 90km/hour according to Northern Tornados Project

The powerful storm that swept through Fonthill on August 2 has now been officially classified as an EF0 downburst.

The Northern Tornados Project says winds reached an estimated 90 kilometres an hour, leaving a trail of tree damage and downed hydro lines across parts of Fonthill and Thorold.

Although a tornado warning was issued during the storm, investigators determined the damage was caused by straight-line winds rather than a tornado.

No injuries were reported, and the damage path stretched nearly 11 kilometres.
