Niagara-native John Chayka named Toronto Maple Leafs GM

A local face is now the Toronto Maple Leafs new General Manager.

Jordan Station's John Chayka was announced as the 19th General Manager in team history on Sunday, his first front office role in the NHL since 2020 with the Arizona Coyotes.

Chayka, along with his wife Kathryn, also owns a number of Wendy's and Tim Hortons restaurants in Canada, and during COVID-19 donated more than 1000 meals to frontline workers in the Niagara Region. The couple also offered 50% off meals for employees on a leave of absence during the pandemic, and provided employees the same discount for their families.

Chayka also worked with St. Catharines-based hockey analytics company Stathletes prior to his time in the NHL. With the Coyotes, Chayka's teams posted a 131-147-38 record during his four seasons.
