The 31st annual Jessica Cook Memorial Slo-Pitch Tournament is coming to Welland next month, continuing a tradition that began more than three decades ago to support a local family.
Jessica Cook was born in 1994 with a rare, terminal mitochondrial disorder.
The condition caused severe brain and optic nerve damage, and Jessica was unable to walk or talk. She passed away in February 2020.
The Cougars slo-pitch team started the tournament in 1995 to help Jessica's family with medical and other expenses.
The event has since expanded to support Ronald McDonald House, while this year's tournament runs September 18th through 20th at the Welland Sports Complex on Quaker Road.
