Inquest into the death of Martin Gordyn announced for December 1st

Dr. Karen Schiff, Regional Supervising Coroner for the West Region Hamilton Office, has announced that the inquest into the death of Martin Gordyn will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 1. 

The inquest will be presided over by Bonnie Goldberg, with Julian Roy serving as inquest counsel.

Gordyn, 27, died on January 5, 2021, after an interaction with Niagara Regional Police officers. Under the Coroners Act, an inquest is required.

The inquest will review the circumstances of his death, and the jury may issue recommendations to help prevent similar incidents in the future. 

It is expected to run for seven days, with testimony from about seven witnesses. Proceedings will take place by video conference.
