IceDogs fall in shootout to Spirit

The IceDogs played a nearly flawless 48 minutes before a late Saginaw rally turned the tide at the Meridian Centre Thursday night in a 5-4 shootout loss.

Scoreless through twenty, Noah Read notched his 10th on the power-play at 3:50. Just after the seven minute mark, Ryerson Edgar hit for his 21st on a breakaway turnover from the IceDogs d-zone. Haoxi Wang completed a three goal second with a short-handed goal, his 4th of the season at 17:57.

In the third, Riley Patterson found the back of the net for his 36th at 3:32. Four unanswered, the last two with the Spirit goaltender on the bench, sent the game to overtime. Outshot 24-22, overtime solved nothing with the IceDogs recording 2 of the 3 shots on goal.

In the shootout, only one shooter could solve Charlie Robertson as the visitors skated away with the extra point.

It's a quick turnaround as the IceDogs host Peterborough Friday night. New Country 89.1 will have the action starting with the pre-game show at 6:45.
