The City of St. Catharines has reinstalled its historic Centennial Totem Pole inside Canada Games Park, preserving the iconic artwork in a climate-controlled, secure indoor setting.
Originally carved in 1966 by renowned Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw artist Doug Cranmer, the 42-foot totem pole was restored by Bruce Alfred—an apprentice of Cranmer—alongside Indigenous artists Dominique Wells and Cole Speck.
The pole was previously removed from Richard Pierpoint Park in 2019 due to weather damage.
The City worked closely with the Niagara Regional Native Centre and Indigenous partners to ensure the pole's preservation. A public rededication event is planned in the coming weeks.
