The Niagara District Airport is celebrating its 96th birthday tomorrow, and is taking a flight down memory lane, reflecting on moments that have helped shape its rich and unique history.
Originally opened in 1929 on the eastern edge of St. Catharines adjacent to the Welland Canal, NDA was relocated three miles northeast in 1935 to where it is today.
During World War II, the airport became home to a Flight Training School for World War II pilots.
The airport says these chapters in its history underscore the airport’s lasting impact on the aviation world and its proud connection to Canada’s military heritage and history.
