The Town of Fort Erie's Accessibility Advisory Committee officially kicked off its 2025 public awareness campaign: #RespectTheSpace.
Part of the Town’s ongoing Multi-Year Accessibility Plan, the campaign focuses on educating the public about proper use of accessible parking spaces, particularly the importance of keeping adjacent hatch-marked zones clear.
Officials say these areas are essential for people with mobility aids to safely enter and exit their vehicles.
Feedback from residents during consultations also raised concerns about sidewalk obstructions.
As a result, the campaign has expanded to address the importance of keeping sidewalks clear for all users, regardless of ability.
