Former Ontario resident reflecting on Hurricane Melissa's destruction of Jamaica

The island of Jamaica is beginning it's long road to recovery after Hurricane Melissa.

Former Ontario resident Mica Shamray says her and her family are safe, but it's hard to put into words.

She says it's bad in Montego Bay where they live, but the southern parts of the island in places like Black River, Treasure Beach, Bluefields and Whitehouse are just gone.

Most people are without power, water and cell service to communicate with their loved ones. She says they have not heard from her mother-in-law.

The Jamaican spirit keeps people going, she says, but the country does need the support. You can make a donation to relief efforts here
