The Mayor of Welland says Premier Doug Ford has pledged to stand with the city in calling for urgent reform to Canada’s criminal laws and bail system.
Mayor Frank Campion says he received a letter of support from the Premier yesterday, following the violent assault of a young girl in Welland.
Campion says the community continues to grieve the “tragic and horrid act,” but is proud of the way residents have rallied with vigils, demonstrations, and calls for change.
The Mayor says the child is recovering, though her journey will be long, and insists the city will not stop pressing for meaningful reform.
