Following a residential fire, Port Colborne Fire Chief Stan Double is emphasizing the importance of working smoke alarms.
On Tuesday, July 22, fire crews responded to 138 Humboldt Parkway at 7:20 a.m., finding the home engulfed in heavy smoke and flames.
Firefighters launched a quick interior attack and brought the blaze under control.
Thanks to functioning smoke alarms, six residents were alerted and safely evacuated before crews arrived.
Chief Double credited the alarms for preventing injury and urged everyone to ensure their alarms are working properly.
