In a timely statement after more tariff threats from the U.S., the federal government announced a round of financial support for Niagara businesses affected by trade disruptions.

Funded through the govenment's Regional Tariff Response Initiative, $11.3 million will be given to support 13 companies in the region.

St. Catharines MP Chris Bittle read the announcement Thursday while visiting High Strength Plates & Profiles - one of the local companies receiving funds that will help upgrade and diversify production.

Company president Jason Brock says this will give them new business opportunities as they adapt to changing trade policies affecting their customers and supply chains.
