Councillor warns proposed Niagara council changes could limit local voices, strain services

A Niagara regional councilor is raising concerns about proposed changes that could make mayors the only representatives at Regional Council.

Haley Bateman, Niagara Regional Councilor of St. Catharines says that would limit community voices and make it harder to reflect local concerns.

They’re also calling on the province to address ongoing financial pressures, noting Niagara’s 14 million annual visitors place added strain on infrastructure, emergency services, and programs funded by local taxpayers.
