City of Welland Girls Sports Day wins provincial award

The City of Welland is celebrating provincial recognition after Parks and Recreation Ontario awarded Welland Girls Sports Day the 2025 Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility Award.

Presented at an awards galas earlier this month, the honour recognizes programs that expand equitable access to recreation, with this event standing out for creating a supportive space where girls can build confidence and stay engaged in sport.

Since launching in 2021 with Niagara College as a key partner, Girls Sports Day has become a signature annual event.

Each June, about 200 girls ages six to 12 rotate through activity stations led by collegiate athletes, coaches, volunteers, and local role models.
