City of St. Catharines to begin snow removal in downtown core tonight

The City of St. Catharines is continuing snow removal efforts in the downtown core tonight, Thursday, January 29, and over the next several days as needed to ensure streets remain safe and accessible for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Crews are scheduled to begin work around 11 p.m., taking into account increased activity from special events at the Meridian Centre and FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre. Tonight’s primary focus will be St. Paul Street, from Ontario Street to Geneva Street. Other streets included in the operation are King and Church Streets (from Ontario Street to Carlisle Street) and William, Queen, and James Streets (from St. Paul Street to King Street). Snow removal will continue into the early morning and may extend to additional streets as required.

Vehicles parked along these streets will be temporarily relocated to Market Square to allow crews to work safely. Residents and visitors are reminded that downtown metered zones have a year-round overnight parking restriction from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. City lots and garages offer free overnight parking, with a map available at stcatharines.ca/parking.

City crews are coordinating closely with special events downtown to minimize disruptions. The St. Catharines Downtown Association is assisting in notifying local businesses and community members.

Updates on the snow removal operation will be shared as work progresses.
