Niagara Region will end recycling collection for non-residential properties on January 1, due to provincial Blue Box Regulation changes that limit the program to residential sources.
Non-residential properties, about 4,375 across the region are not included in the provincial system, and continuing service would require a separate fleet costing up to $3.5 million annually.
Residential recycling remains unchanged.
The Region has been advising businesses to secure private recycling services and will continue offering support during the transition.
