Ontario is considering stricter bans on cellphones and social media in schools, but experts at Brock University say restrictions alone won’t solve the issue.
Assistant Professor Mohammed Estaiteyeh says bans need to be paired with education in digital literacy, online safety and responsible tech use.
He warns that without that, students may be less prepared for life outside the classroom and that a ban could widen the digital divide, especially in schools that rely on personal devices.
Experts also say clearer rules and evidence are needed before expanding current policies.
