A Brock University researcher has received $100,000 to investigate a potential new approach to treating Alzheimer’s disease.
Health Sciences Professor Newman Sze is studying whether age-related damage to brain blood vessels makes it harder to clear away waste linked to the disease.
With funding from the Alzheimer Society and Brain Canada, Sze and his team will test an antibody designed to remove damaged proteins and help restore the brain’s natural waste-clearing system.
The research could eventually lead to new treatments for Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia, helping protect memory and thinking abilities.
