Brock leading research for AI companion for breast cancer patients

Brock University is helping lead the charge when it comes to the emotionally toll battling cancer has on someone.

New research, funded by a Canadian Cancer Society Disruptive Innovation Grant, will explore how AI companions can offer emotional support to breast cancer patients and caregivers.

The project, led by Brock University’s Amina Silva and Ellyn Winters-Robinson of The Lyndall Project and AskEllyn, will study the impact of AskEllyn, the world’s first AI companion for breast cancer.

Rooted in Winters-Robinson’s lived experience, AskEllyn provides around-the-clock, multilingual, non-medical support to help patients and families manage anxiety and isolation.
