Birchway Niagara receives $750k donation from Katz family

Birchway Niagara has received a transformational $750,000 gift from long-time local philanthropists Jana and Michael Katz in support of its Creating Safe Spaces capital campaign.

The donation will help move the agency closer to expanding its 45-bed domestic violence shelter on McLeod Road.

Plans for the project include the addition of pet-friendly rooms, a new community gathering space, and other upgrades designed to reduce barriers and enhance support for women and children fleeing abuse.

Thanks to this gift from the Katz family and other anonymous donors, Birchway has now raised $3.8 million toward its $5.5 million fundraising goal.

With $1.7 million still needed, the agency is calling on the community to help finish the campaign.
