Niagara Regional Police have made an arrest following the discovery of human remains in a St. Catharines apartment building.
Officers were called to the Lake Street and Lakeshore Road area on June 30 after a report of a tenant who hadn’t been seen or heard from in some time.
Inside the apartment, police located human remains. Investigators later determined there was no foul play in the death.
Police say a follow-up investigation led to the arrest of 63-year-old Marie Fischer of St. Catharines on charges related to neglect and interference with a dead body.
Police add there is no risk to public safety and the investigation remains ongoing.
The identity of the deceased is not being released.
