A major affordable housing project is coming to downtown St. Catharines.

Nearly 500 new co-op housing units will be built on the former Hotel Dieu Hospital site, making it the largest housing co-operative development in Niagara's history.

The project is a partnership between the Golden Horseshoe Co-operative Housing Federation, Elevate Living and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

Construction timelines are expected to be announced as the project moves into its next phase.
