Niagara Regional Chair Bob Gale says more than $3 million in additional savings have been identified for the Region’s proposed 2026 budget following a detailed operational review.
After Regional Council passed a motion in January directing staff to look for further efficiencies, Gale asked the organization to examine immediate cost-saving opportunities without affecting healthcare, long-term care, or essential and social services.
Gale said he has heard clearly from taxpayers who are feeling financial pressure and has emphasized the importance of keeping budget increases as low as possible.
The identified savings remain subject to final approval by Regional Council.
