$140K being put towards new wetland in Port Colborne

The Government of Canada and the City of Port Colborne are investing a combined $140,000 into a natural infrastructure project aimed at improving stormwater drainage and enhancing outdoor recreation.

The initiative will see the construction of a 6100 square-metre wetland and 450 metres of gravel walking paths at Centennial Park, along with the planting of native trees and shrubs.

Wetlands act as natural sponges, absorbing rainwater, snowmelt and runoff to help reduce flooding risks while boosting local biodiversity.

The project is designed to create an environmentally sustainable space that also serves as an attractive destination for residents and visitors.
