What's Good in Niagara? Shannon Adams Scholarship Fundraiser to help local student pursue medical career

The Shannon Adams Scholarship Fundraiser is back for its fifth year this weekend, helping a local student pursue a career in the medical industry while remembering a woman who wanted nothing but to help raise awareness during her battle with cancer.

Paul Wainrwright, one of the organizers of the event, says it didn't take them very long to want to host an event to honour Shannon's memory, and they knew they wanted to make it count.

A nurse of 17 years, Adams passed away in January 2022 after a battle with Plasma Cell Leukemia Multiple Myeloma. During her treatment, she raised money and awareness for things like stem cell registrations and blood donations.

Since starting as an annual event, the scholarship given has always been $10,000. Fast forward a few years, and Wainwright says there are now former recipients of the scholarship coming to the fundraiser.

The fundraiser, featuring live music, prizes and a raffle, is being held at Iggy's Grub and Pub Saturday from 6:00pm to 1:00am. Donations can be made via etransfer to Treasurer Shelley Bramston at shannonadamsscholarship@gmail.com.
