'Tis the season for bright and colourful holiday light displays, but you need to make sure you're being safe while doing so.
Welland Fire Prevention Officer Michael Atkins says it's important to make sure none of your lights are frayed, regardless of where you plan on putting them up.
Atkins adds that you should also make sure you're watering your Christmas tree regularly if it's real, to avoid it becoming a fire hazard.
Among other holiday safety tips is cooking - especially on the stovetop. Atkins says often times people will have lots of company over while cooking, which can lead to distractions and not watching your stove enough. You're always reminded to be attentive while cooking to avoid catastrophe.
