Niagara’s newest university is preparing to celebrate a major milestone this week.
The University of Niagara Falls Canada will hold its first ever convocation ceremonies Thursday at the Niagara Falls Convention Centre, with more than 900 students expected to graduate across two ceremonies.
University President and Vice-Chancellor David Gray says organizing a first convocation has meant building traditions and ceremony plans from scratch, while also creating a more modern experience for students and the community.
The university currently has just under 3,000 students after opening in 2024, and offers programs focused on areas with growing labour demand.
Gray says the school’s academic programs are designed around workforce shortages and industry needs.
Programs currently offered include digital media, data analytics, healthcare, computer science and applied artificial intelligence.
Gray also says the university has helped bring new activity and investment to Niagara Falls’ downtown core, with more businesses, restaurants and entertainment spaces opening near campus in recent years.
