What's Good in Niagara? River Lions host first public practice in Port Colborne

Basketball fans in Niagara got their first look this week at the team that's set to defend back-to-back Canadian Elite Basketball League Championships.

The Niagara River Lions held their first Open Practice at the Vale Health and Wellness Centre in Port Colborne on Tuesday as they prepare to kick off the 2026 season on Monday with a four-game road trip starting in Ottawa against the Blackjacks.

Head Coach and General Manager Kimbal Mackenzie said he loves how it connects the team with the community:

He said it also gives the players a chance to kick back and relax while still training for the upcoming season:

Two more Open Practices are planned during the season, with one on June 16th in Grimsby at the Major Refrigeration Peach King Centre and another July 7th at their home in the Meridian Centre!
