What's Good in Niagara? Niagara high school students showing off their technical skills

Niagara College play host to hundreds of high school students from across the region last week for the 28th annual DSBN Technical Skills Challenge.

Over 30 competitions were held, allowing them to show off their skills in different areas ranging from welding to hairstyling to culinary arts.

Lissa Schoot Uiterkamp, a DSBN consultant for the challenge, talked about the benefits of holding the competition at the college.

The benefits to students also extend beyond the refinement of their technical skills. Simeon Remedios, who ran the Video Production and 3D Computer Animation challenge, emphasized the importance of the 'softer' skills students also learn.

Each winner moves on to the Skills Ontario Competition held this May in Toronto.
