The best junior lacrosse players in Canada will embark on Niagara starting Saturday for the Minto Cup.
The St. Catharines Junior Athletics are hosting the winners of junior leagues in Ontario, British Columbia and the prairies over the next week or so.
President of the Junior Athletics Paul Coates says the Minto Cup in Niagara is a long time coming.
That tournament was held at the now-demolished Jack Gatecliff Arena, while this year's tournament will be held at the Meridian Centre.
Coates says this is the perfect chance to showcase the downtown core.
While the tournament hasn't been hosted here in nearly 25 years, Coates says Niagara is still a hotbed for lacrosse - with dozens of local pros to prove it.
The Minto Cup kicks off with games at 4:00pm and 7:30pm at the Meridian Centre on Saturday.
