What's Good in Niagara? Julia's Hope Cup a 'love story' in 2026: Paul Turner

The Julia’s Hope Cup is set to return to the pond of Welland's Chippewa Park for its 15th year, continuing a heartfelt tradition of hockey and community generosity in support of The Hope Centre.

Organizer Paul Turner says while every year brings something new, the mission remains the same, raising funds and awareness for families in need.

With a fundraising goal of $65,000, Turner says the community always finds a way to step up.

The tournament is in honour of Paul’s late daughter, Julia, who passed away after a battle with cancer in 2011 at the age of 15. Turner says the community support throughout the years has been heartwarming, with a very fitting theme for 2026 because it's on Valentine's Day.

As grocery prices and living costs continue to climb, Turner says the Hope Centre’s work is more important than ever. While the day features friendly competition and nostalgia, the focus remains on ensuring no one in Welland goes without the essential needs.

Teams can register in advance or simply show up on tournament day to take part. You can also make a donation online through the event's website
