Families looking for something fun and affordable to do during March Break can head to Lighthouse Festival Theatre for an energetic, audience-driven production of DuffleBag Cinderella.
The show is performed by DuffleBag Theatre, a company known for turning classic fairy tales into laugh-out-loud experiences built around audience participation. Unlike a traditional stage production, this version of Cinderella invites children — and sometimes parents or even grandparents — to step into starring roles.
Marketing and Communications Manager Don Kearney-Bourque says each performance follows a loose story structure, but the audience shapes what happens next.
Volunteers may find themselves playing Cinderella, the prince or even the wicked stepmother, complete with costumes and props. The improvisational style means no two shows are ever the same.
Kearney-Bourque says one of the most memorable parts of the experience is watching shy participants grow more confident as the show unfolds.
With constant laughter and plenty of surprises, organizers say the performance offers a lively way for local families to enjoy live theatre close to home during the school break.
“It’s a great interactive time for everybody,” Kearney-Bourque added. “You never know what you’re going to get, and that’s part of the fun.”
