What's Good in Niagara? Hoverlink aiming to connect Niagara to Toronto

Service would allow for Niagara-to-Toronto travel in 30 minutes

The idea of hovercraft service from Niagara to Toronto is something that many have doubted for a long time, but Hoverlink wants to make it a reality.

Earlier this month the company announced it has secured a landing position in Toronto, after a location in Port Weller was announced last year by Hoverlink.

The crafts would allow travelers to get from St. Catharines to Toronto in about half an hour, which President Erika Portz says is much faster than any other means of transportation.

As of now there is limited GO Train service to Niagara from Toronto - which takes about two hours from the Niagara Falls Station to Union Station, while buses have to compete with other vehicles to get to Toronto.

Portz says because of this, many times people don't get to visit both areas.

Hoverlink's website also says that electric shuttle buses will be available at its terminals when they open, bringing travelers to nearby destinations from the waterfront. The company also says it plans on taking up to 48 lake crossings a day, 365 days a year, with each capable of carrying 180 passengers at a time.

Portz says when it comes to an operational timeline, there is still quite a bit that has to be sorted out, but having locations on each side of the lake is a great start.

While the price of a Hoverlink trip hasn't yet been announced, Portz said it'll likely be comparable to other modes of transportation to get to and from Toronto.
